MWA Races/Saint Francis Trip March 20-22

Folks, a few CWA members are going to head down to the Saint Francis for the MWA races the weekend of March 20-22nd. Several members of the Missouri Whitewater Association have come to our races, and it's always a great time when we visit theirs.

Even if you do not want to race, the St. Francis is an awesome river that's only six hours away. (It's an hour south of St. Louis) It's mostly 2+/3, with some really cool drops and fantastic play. There are challenging lines for those who want to step it up. I would say that it's harder than Section 3 of the Wolf, but easier than Section 4 or the Peshtigo as long as it is at normal flows. If you are very comfortable on Gilmore's Mistake it should be a reasonable next step up in difficulty.

The shuttle is easy, there is a campground at the takeout, and there is a town a few minutes away for food. There is also a riverside trail for hiking or even a foot shuttle. It's hard to believe that CWA folks don't head there more often.

I'm heading down Friday early afternoon. I'm likely going to race in one class, but mostly boat socially. Camp at the take out: Silver Mines Recreation Area. I have a site reserved for us, but if we get a big crowd we may need additional sites. More race info is available on the Missouri Whitewater Association website, but post here about our plans.

Follow up info: The race registration is not yet live, but it should be soon. The MWA website says that it will open sometime in January.

I have reserved two campsites for CWA members. As the time comes closer I'll send out the specific site numbers and other details.

If you want to be included on emails about this trip, let me know via email. For those who don't have my email address, send one to cwa@chicagowhitewater.org and it will get to me.
